PEEK-CF 3D Printing Filament Features

PEEK-CF (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polyether Ether Ketone) is a high-performance composite material with carbon fiber added to the PEEK matrix. The addition of carbon fiber significantly improves the mechanical properties of PEEK, with tensile strength reaching 90 MPa, Young's modulus up to 7500 MPa, and flexural modulus of 5500 MPa. While maintaining PEEK's excellent high-temperature performance (HDT 200°C) and chemical stability. PEEK-CF has higher dimensional stability and lower thermal expansion coefficient, suitable for manufacturing high-precision, high-rigidity structural parts.
Mechanical Properties
Tensile strength 90 MPa, flexural strength 125 MPa, Young's modulus 7500 MPa, flexural modulus 5500 MPa. Carbon fiber reinforcement gives PEEK-CF extremely high rigidity and strength, with elongation at break of about 4.5%, suitable for manufacturing structural parts under high loads.
Thermal Properties
Melting point 340°C, Heat Deflection Temperature (HDT B) 200°C (0.45MPa). PEEK-CF has excellent high-temperature performance, maintaining outstanding mechanical properties even in high-temperature environments, with significantly reduced thermal expansion coefficient and better dimensional stability.
Chemical Properties
Excellent corrosion resistance to most organic solvents, acids, and alkalis. The addition of carbon fiber further improves the chemical resistance and hydrolysis resistance of the material, maintaining stable performance in high-temperature and high-pressure environments.

PEEK-CF Filament FAQ

What printing conditions does CreatBot PEEK-CF filament require?

PEEK-CF material printing requires extremely high temperatures and specialized high-temperature equipment. Recommended nozzle temperature 400-450°C, print bed temperature 100-220°C, chamber temperature 80-220°C. Drying at 100-120°C for 6-8 hours is required before printing. Cooling fan should be OFF. Specialized high-temperature 3D printers must be used, such as CreatBot PEEK-250/PEEK-300 series.

What advantages does PEEK-CF have over pure PEEK?

PEEK-CF significantly improves mechanical properties through carbon fiber reinforcement: tensile strength increased from 75 MPa to 90 MPa, Young's modulus from 4400 MPa to 7500 MPa, flexural modulus from 2500 MPa to 5500 MPa. Meanwhile, HDT increased from 150°C to 200°C, thermal expansion coefficient is significantly reduced, and dimensional stability is better.

Why is high-temperature drying necessary for PEEK-CF material printing?

PEEK-CF material has strong hygroscopicity. Moisture will vaporize during high-temperature printing, causing bubbles inside the print and silver streaks on the surface, seriously affecting mechanical properties and appearance quality. Drying at 100-120°C for 6-8 hours can effectively remove moisture from the material.

What types of models and applications is PEEK-CF material suitable for?

PEEK-CF is widely used in multiple high-end fields due to its excellent comprehensive properties. Typical applications include: ① Aerospace - engine peripheral parts, structural brackets, heat shields; ② Medical devices - artificial bones, surgical instruments, implants; ③ Automotive manufacturing - engine parts, bearings, seals; ④ Electronics - chip carriers, connectors; ⑤ Precision machinery - high-rigidity structural parts, tooling fixtures.

How should PEEK-CF filament be stored properly?

PEEK-CF material has strong hygroscopicity, and proper storage is crucial for ensuring print quality. Storage methods: ① Unopened filament should be stored in a cool, dry place (temperature 15-25°C, humidity <30%), avoiding direct sunlight; ② Opened filament is recommended to be stored in a sealed bag with desiccant; ③ If not used for a short period (more than 24 hours), it is recommended to remove the filament from the printer and store it sealed.

How to improve first layer adhesion when printing PEEK-CF?

First layer adhesion is key to successful PEEK-CF printing. Recommended measures: ① Heat print bed to 100-220°C, maintain stable temperature; ② Use 3D printing spray, PVP glue stick, or specialized adhesive to treat the bed surface; ③ Reduce first layer print speed to 15-20mm/s, with nozzle height slightly lower than normal; ④ Set first layer line width to 120-150% of nozzle diameter; ⑤ Use brim with 8-12mm width.
