Challenge | Bottlenecks in Turning Design into Reality

Although traditional CNC or injection molding can produce large shells, Samsung's evaluation revealed several unavoidable issues:

  • Curved-surface & overall precision: At 1.1 m long, the monitor shell's large-curvature surface would suffer discontinuous curvature transitions if machined in sections, harming visual quality.
  • R&D schedule pressure: From design freeze to first appearance validation, less than 10 days were allotted for prototype fabrication.
  • Multiple iterations: The styling might require several tweaks during reviews, something traditional tooling could not accommodate flexibly.
